There are 33 community car clubs across UK and a further 10 in major cities. Car Bute was established in 2011 as part of CarPlus Developing Car Clubs in Scotland programme. Since then our car club has went from strength to strength, and holds a unique place as an island based service. Many individual members who joined in that first year have continued with us, and tell us how useful it is to have access to a car when they need it. Visitor numbers taking advantage of our temporary membership have travelled to Bute from all over the globe.
During 2016, our cars have travelled over 10,000 miles taking people on many different types of journey. For local members trip reasons vary from hospital appointments to lunch at Ettrick Bay; whilst visitors tour our beautiful island and use the cars to access the rest of Argyll. For a few, an introduction to Car Bute comes as a result of their own vehicle going off the road, and find it is a good time to evaluate the benefits of sharing car ownership through the club. Whatever the reason, it is good to know that Car Bute is an asset to Isle of Bute.
Annual membership is just £60, it’s easy to join and easy to use.
