Planting out at Battery Place

Amidst the snow and under the palm trees, this Sunday will see the first day of planting for the Future Growth project. The project has found enthusiasm amongst local residents and, whilst we have no control over the weather we feel sure that those who have attended the training are well prepared for the task ahead of them. The training had taught skills of seeding, planting out, ground preparation and harvesting; skills that will all be directly relevant to community planting.

Sunday’s planting session is by no means limited to those who were on the course though. Any of Bute’s island residents who are keen to join in and see fruit, veg and herbs growing freely in community spaces are welcome to come along and join the fun. Bring your boots and enthusiasm and we can provide the rest. By the end of the project we expect to see the beds containing;

  • Chive
  • Lemon balm
  • Fennel
  • Blueberry
  • Hazel
  • Strawberry
  • Raspberry
  • Gooseberry
  • Marigold
  • Rosemary
  • Sage
  • Thyme

A third and final training course still remains but there is nothing to stop anyone who wants to come along on Sunday (21st January) and join us. We are meeting at Battery Place bus shelter, opposite the Boathouse B&B. Soup and refreshments will be provided. If you wish to take part in our third training course, contact Fyne Futures on 01700 503181.
