Bute Produce will now be offering convenient fresh produce outside the doctor’s surgery on a Tuesday afternoon from around 1pm. There will be high value soup bags and single items available to purchase and there will be staff on hand to explain our project and scheme should you wish to sign up to a regular delivery.

Food Hub Trial!

We are very pleased to announce the introduction of the Bute Produce ‘Food Hub’ – an online shopping cart designed to make ordering your seasonal, fresh, local produce from us a simple and convenient process.

The Food Hub will be introduced to the website next week after the trial and customers simply fill out a registration form send it back to us then we will issue your log-in details and manual and you can get clicking!

The Food Hub’s long term aims are in line with those of the Fife Diet, to:

1. reduce our impact on the wider environment through the food choices we make

2. grow, share and eat food together

3. create a network that boosts the local food economy

4. create better access to fresh local produce

Tighnabruaich Recycling Run Cancelled

Unfortunately, yesterday’s recycling run to Tighnabruaich had to be cancelled owing to an issue with the vehicle. A fault in the lifts on the recycling van caused a vast amount of hydraulic fluid to leak out across the road and as such it was deemed unsafe to continue with the run. The driver attempted to have the problem fixed at the local garage but this was not possible with such short notice and so the vehicle had to return to the recycling centre to be fixed.

The recycling run will resume on the next scheduled date, Tuesday 15th May.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused, any surplus recycling can be placed in carrier bags, bin liners etc and left out with the usual bags and bins for collection on the above date.

In producing biodiesel, Fyne Futures creates employment within the community and provides carbon neutral power for the island’s recycling services…which helps lower the island’s carbon footprint.

Used vegetable oil is integral to the production of biodiesel.

We welcome all donations of used vegetable oil and provide a tailored service for businesses which includes collection and delivery of new oil with minimal notice required. Individuals can donate their vegetable oil in a bottle beside their kerbside recycling, or it can be handed into the recycling yard at Colbeck Lane Industrial Estate.

Garden News

The recent bouts of sun (albeit intermittent!) have been bringing through some spring produce at our garden in Ashfield. Why not come and visit us and see what’s starting to grow and have a look at the local, fresh produce we have stocked up on in the Veg Shack?

The garden is open Mon-Fri 9.30am until 4.30pm and will soon be opening Saturday’s too.

Ferry Berry Easter Egg Hunt

The Ferry Berry Club and friends had a very successful Easter Egg Hunt at the Bute Produce garden on Friday and after much redistribution of goods, all managed to get a share of some delicious chocolate to reward all of their running around.

Make Do & Mend! 3-5pm, 30th March 2012

WWII principles like ‘Make Do & Mend’ are excellent ways of saving money and resources. Our WWII themed event on the 30th March between 3pm – 5pm is for children and adults alike and will combine thrifty cooking and craft demonstrations, gardening tours, tips and the chance to win prizes.

We will have demonstrations by local crafts groups and the Walking Theatre Company - it is set to be an interactive, fun-filled afternoon.
